Remembering Angus Cloud: A Tribute to the ‘Euphoria’ Actor, Gone Too Soon at 25 in California

Angus Cloud – The local drug dealer in HBO’s Euphoria, Fezco “Fez” O’Neil, is known for his role. When he passed away, he was only 25 years old. In an interview with Variety in August 2022, he revealed that it bothered him when fans compared him to his character, Fezco. He said, “It bothers me when people say, ‘It should be easy! You just have to go in and be yourself.’ I’m like, ‘Why don’t you go and do it then?’ It’s not that easy. I brought a lot to the character, and you can believe what you want about it. I have nothing to do with that.

He further stated, “I hope I did a good job. I’m not trying to be a Chalamet. But if I did dirt, then it’s what it is. I don’t know how to act like I know what I’m doing. I just did it. I’m in a room with people who’ve been acting their whole life, and I’m like, ‘Why am I here?’ Unfortunately, we won’t see their magic on the screen again. Here we learn about Angus Cloud and his untimely death.

How did Angus Cloud die?

The reason of death for Angus Cloud wasn’t made public right away. However, later, TMZ reported that on July 31, 2023, around 11:30 a.m., Oakland PD responded to a 911 call made by Cloud’s mother, indicating a “possible overdose” and stating that her son was not breathing. An ambulance ultimately declared him deceased at the scene. According to the website, “A source close to the family tells us that upon returning from Ireland, Angus had been struggling with severe suicidal thoughts, where he’d buried his father.” The family’s statement reveals that he was coping with his father’s death, which had occurred a week before. His father had been buried in Ireland, and Cloud had purportedly returned to Oakland to be with his mother.

“We are devastated to have to bid such a wonderful person farewell today. As an artist, a friend, a brother, and a son, Angus was special to us all,” the statement said.

“Last week he buried his father and struggled greatly with the loss. Our only comfort is knowing Angus is now with his father, who was his best friend. Angus was open about his struggles with mental health and, tragically, has left behind those who have been acting their whole lives.”

In a statement by HBO, a spokesperson later said, “We are heartbroken by the news of Angus Cloud’s passing. He was incredibly brilliant and an essential member of the HBO and Euphoria families. We extend our deepest sympathies to his friends and family during this difficult time.”

Maude Apatow, who portrayed Lexi in Euphoria, ultimately Fezco’s girlfriend, said that “Fezzi” was in part with his co-star due to their IR-chemistry/friendship. “Sam and I talked for hours about all this. It all happened quite organically. I can’t remember how it came up everything made clear once we started talking about it, she told Entertainment Weekly in February 2022. And Angus and I have an odd friendship in real life. It all just became. Once we started talking about it, it felt right.”

She kept up that she would enjoy seeing the relationship progress in season three, which we sadly won’t get to see. When a relationship seems so pure and sweet—they didn’t even kiss in the final episode—I think it’s so new. They just hold hands, and it’s really developing very slowly,” she said. And, in my opinion, it sort of takes center stage despite the fact that there are so many other things going on in the show. So, I think a lot of the stuff coming up in the show, which is so intense, it for sure very much contrasts with that. But I love working with Angus. I think he’s a great actor, and we have so much fun working together. Therefore, because it’s pleasant, I hope we get to film more scenes together. He’s just a great partner. He’s very present and talented, and, yeah, I love working with him, so I would love to get to work with him more.”

Many fans expressed their reactions to the news, saying that HBO should cancel Euphoria since it would be pointless without Cloud, given the impact of his presence on the screen. Under one of HBO’s Instagram posts about his death, one person commented, “I don’t want Euphoria 3 anymore.” Another wrote, “Please don’t bring back the excitement; now it doesn’t make sense.” Yet another commented, “Can’t imagine the show without Fez. No imagination.”

Why Angus Cloud had a scar on his head:

In 2022, the emerging actor revealed that the scar on his head was due to a construction site accident during his adolescence. I woke up twelve hours later,” he told Variety. I was stuck. I finally got out – I don’t know how long after. Getting out was tough because my skull was cracked, but my skin wasn’t, so all the blood was internal, which was putting pressure on my brain. But they weren’t looking for me there. I found myself. Or God found me, whatever you want to say.”

He further said, “I didn’t feel any pain,” he says. “I was alive, you feel me?” Before his eyesight blurred, Cloud ran and caught a bus to his mother’s place. “Because I was a kid! I was 14 or 15. He thought I was on drugs because my pupils were huge. I tried to explain to her what happened, but I only got one sentence out – I couldn’t finish it. So I was like, ‘I’m just going to bed.'”

According to Deadline, Cloud could be seen in The Line with Alex Wolff, Austin Abrams, John Malkovich, and Scott Mescudi, written and directed by Ethan Berger. His final roles include the indie film Your Lucky Day and playing Miranda Cosgrove, Nico Hiraga, and Vince Vaughn’s main role in North Hollywood.
